Welcome to the

2012 National Heroes Day

Contest Site!

It has become fashionable to overstate the idea of heroes in our culture today. Historically, there are countless heroes who have become lost or forgotten. The major goal of National Heroes Day is to bring true heroes back into the spotlight. National Heroes Day can plant the seeds for the growth of REAL heroes for the future. It is our goal to inspire students of all ages to rediscover the forgotten heroes from the past.

One way to attain our goal of bringing true heroes of American history to the forefront is through our annual National Heroes Day Contest.  This is an open invitation to high school history and social studies students across the country to get involved and tell us about your heroes.

What is the Heroes Day Contest?
It’s a fun, friendly competition for students from schools across the country who love history.  As part of the competition, each team must:

  1. Watch and complete history quizzes on three (3) Who's My Hero Videos
  2. Read and complete quizzes on twelve (12) Heroes Readings
  3. Post one (1) Student-Generated Hero Video, PowerPoint or Multimedia presentation (tiebreaker) on Franklin's Opus History Hub

All components of the contest are online and can be completed by one or more member of each team order between January 15, 2012 and April 5, 2012.
